Unit Pricing: The Fastest Way to Compare Sizes
Package size and sticker price hide the comparison. One small calculation makes it visible.
Choose the useful unit
Divide price by ounces, pounds, sheets, loads, doses, servings, or individual pieces. Use the measure that reflects how the product is consumed. For concentrated products, compare uses rather than container volume.
Normalize the offers
Apply coupons and required quantities before calculating. If a promotion requires two packages, use the combined price and combined units. Make sure both packages contain the same formula or quality level.
Do not ignore waste
The lower unit price loses value if part of the bulk package expires, becomes stale, or cannot be stored. Your realistic usable quantity matters more than the amount printed on the box.
Check convenience honestly
Sometimes a smaller package is worth a modest premium because it prevents waste or fits the budget. Unit price informs the decision; it does not make the decision for you.
